ELECTROPHORETIC LACQUER COATING CLEARCLAD 408

Coating Performance

The coating performance factor is 430 for LC408.

To calculate the area coated in square metres per 1kg LC408, you can divide the factor in microns by the required coating. For example, 1 kg  of LC408 lacquer concentrate with a thickness of  10 microns is able to coat a surface area of 430/10 = 43 square metres.

Note that the coating performance will decrease when matting agents and colourants are included. REOKOL803 and certain colourants.

You can contact Galtek Galvano Technical Department for details.

Physical Specifications

Transparent coating: The baking programme is specified as 160°C for metal temperature for 20 minutes unless otherwise specified.

Normal coating thickness range: 10-25 microns depending on the application.

Pencil hardness (ASTM D3363): 5-6H at 3 Newtons.

Abrasion resistance (ASTM D968): Coefficient = 25 litres/mile with Ottawa sand.

Adhesion: ISO2409 classification 1 max can be applied to surfaces of normal thickness.

Scratch resistance (Erichsen 318): 1.5 Newton – mar, 15 Newton – hollow.

Acetone rubbing test for curing: 1000 pairs of rubbing (170°C, metal temperature for 20 minutes).

Perspiration resistance (ANSI/BHMA): Capable to withstand 4 cycles depending on the baking programme and thickness.

Environmental Resistance Test

Salt water corrosion (e.g. ASTM B117): Corrosion inhibitor with fully cured LC408 film, barrier effect. The final resistance depends on the substrate, metal type, pre-treatment and LC408 plating film thickness. Qualified testing with valid specifications for the compatibility of any system is recommended.

Ultraviolet light (ISO11507): UVA340: 1250kJ/m², without significant loss in its decorative appearance. 5mg/dm2 with less mass loss.

Resistance to Chemicals

For hardware and fittings items applications, LC408 has excellent resistance to regular household cleaning products. Resistant to personal care, kitchen products and many commonly used industrial chemicals. The list below shows some specific and generic materials that have no effect on  LC408 after 24 hours. The contact time on the basis of hours was applied by baking for 30 minutes at a product temperature of 170°C.
